Where it all began
We first made this shirt five years ago after seeing the Black Panther and Ava Duvernay’s A Wrinkle in Time. Our inspiration was the fierce Dora Milaje, the brilliant Princess Shuri as chief science officer of Wakanda, and the physics-loving Meg Murray in her curly-headed glory skipping across galaxies to save the world. We thought of all the brilliant black girls and women doing world-changing work. Since then, there have been many films as well as Black women saving the world in real life, such as Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett, the lead scientist behind the groundbreaking coronavirus vaccine. Sis was and is literally saving lives! What started out as a shirt is now a movement with a new upcoming podcast.
